How to Create a Product Type

Created by Jared Hislop, Modified on Sun, 14 Apr at 9:58 PM by Jared Hislop

Product Types are how your Organization classifies its products. Product Types are the top-level type of product, not the specific product within that classification. For example, the top-level name may be "Sealcoat" and later a specific product of "AP4 Sealcoat" may be created under that Product Type.

Bitumio has its own classification; however, you can rename any of these classification to be how you would like them to appear in Proposals, Work Orders, etc.

Creating a Product Type

Step 1: Click the "Product Settings" on the Left Navigation Bar

Step 2: This will show a list of Product Types. Click the blue "Create Product Type" button in the upper right corner.

Step 3: There are four settings to configure a Product Type.

  • Name: This is what your Organization wants to call the Product Type.
  • Type: This is the Bitumio Internal naming. This value will not appear on any Proposal, Work Order, etc. This is only internal to the Bitumio Software.
    • The Name you define can be the same as the Type in the dropdown.
  •  Margin Percentages:
    • Indirect Percentage - This is how much markup should be applied for Indirect Costs to all products under this Product Type.
    • Markup Percentage - This is how much markup should be applied for Profit to all products under this Product Type.
    • Overhead Percentage - This is how much markup should be applied for Overhead Costs to all products under this Product Type.

Step 4: Once all the settings are input, click "Create"
